If you've ever been to a chiropractor then you've heard the term ''subluxation''....but do you really know what a subluxation is?
It's easy to imagine how the delicate balance of the vertebral column can be upset. Repetitive motion, trauma (such as a fall or a car accident), and even office work may all generate slight alterations in spinal alignment. When vertebrae become misaligned or a spinal movement is restricted, the result is a condition known as vertebral subluxation. This common occurrence is linked with a myraid of health concerns. Carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, backaches, and numbness in hands or legs can all be symptoms of a subluxation. As a chiropractor, Dr. Parker corrects vertebral subluxations with safe and gentle maneuvers called chiropractic adjustments. She palpates along the spine to determine the existence of vertebral subluxations. In addition, she also observes the patients range-of-motion restriction, postural imbalances, and/or muscle tension. It's important to remember that even slight misalignments in the spine can trigger chronic conditions so taking care of your spine is just as important as brushing your teeth or going to your medical physicians for routine checkups.
Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome therapy is designed to help patients with conditions which are linked to brain dysfunction, problems with motor planning and sequencing, and for children with learning disabilities. It teaches the patient to synchronize hand and foot motions to the rhymic beat of a computer generated tone they hear through headphones or speakers. There is real time auditory feedback on their performance that does not distract them, and helps them improve. As the duration of therapy periods increase, their endurance builds and the brain begins to relax and fire its messages to the body more accuratly.
The Parker Brain Balance Program
Brain Balance Therapy is based on a technique called Hemispheric Integration Therapy developed by Dr. Robert Melillo. Current research on brain function proves that children who have been diagnosed with disorders such as ADHD, PDD-NOS, Asperger’s, and learning disabilities, suffer from a under connectivity which occurs within and between the left and right hemispheres of the brain and/or large networks inside of the brain. Studies prove that it is this imbalance of function, also referred to as functional disconnection syndrome, which is often responsible for many if not all of the physical, cognitive and/or behavior difficulties related to these disorders. The good news is, is that current research about the brain proves that the neurons in the brain are not damaged in any way. They are however, under stimulated and weak. The concept called neuroplasticIty is the ability of the nerve to change and grow based upon proper stimulation. Our program evaluates where the under functioning areas are and we work to make them stronger.
